Graphic images add interest or information to a project. Graphic images are added to a project as objects. NOTE : In Project 2013, the Object button must first be added to the Quick Access toolbar in order to access the Insert Object dialog box.

When adding an object, you can choose to embed it in or link it to a project file. Select the Link option if you wish to link an object to a project instead of embedding it. There are several things to consider when deciding whether to link or embed an object. Embedded objects are inserted into a file and therefore enlarge the file size. Linking an object ensures that changes to the original object are automatically updated in the linked project. Conversely, embedding an object ensures that the object displayed in the project will not change if changes are made to the original source file. If you are sharing a project file containing links with other users, they must have access to the linked files to view the objects; otherwise you should embed them. The Display As Icon option displays an icon representing the object rather than the object. Double-clicking the icon opens the object in its associated application. If you insert an icon for a Microsoft Word document that contains a table comparing different roofing materials, double-clicking the icon opens the document in Microsoft Word. After inserting an object, it can be moved or resized. You can move a graphic by pointing to the interior of the graphic and dragging it to another location. You must select a graphic to resize it. When an object is selected, black squares, called selection handles, appear around its border. To resize the object, you drag one of the corners or side handles in the desired direction.
