Apply the Cost table and drag the split bar as far right as possible. Notice the values in the Variance column. The cost variance is calculated by subtracting the cost ( Total Cost column) from the baseline cost ( Baseline column).

You wish to create a graphical indicator that displays a red circle for tasks that are more than $300 over budget.

Steps

1. Select the Project tab.

The Project ribbon appears.

2. Point to Custom Fields .

The Custom Fields dialog appears.

Click

Task , if necessary.

3. Select the Task or Resource option, as desired. The option is selected.

4. Select the Type list.

Click Type

A list of data types appears.

Click Cost.

5. Select the data type for the new field. The data type appears in the Type box. 6. Select the custom field you want to define. The custom field is selected.

Click Cost1 , if necessary.

7. Select Rename .

Click

.

The Rename Field dialog box opens.

Type Cost Indicators.

8. Type a new name for the custom field. The text appears in the Rename Field dialog box.

9. Select OK .

Click

.

The Rename Field dialog box closes and the new custom field name appears with the original name in the Field list.
