Discussion

Microsoft Project includes a variety of views, tables, and groups as well as other elements that you can use to manage your project information. The default settings for these elements are stored in the global template file ( global.mpt ). You can find a list of the default elements in the global template file in the Organizer dialog box.

If you modify the properties of a default element, you need to use the Organizer to restore the default settings for that element. For example, if you delete the Resource Names field and increase the width of the Duration field in the default Gantt Chart view and later decide that you want to restore the default settings, you would need to use the Organizer to restore the settings in the Entry table, which is applied to the Gantt Chart view by default. To restore the default settings, you need to copy the default element stored in the global template file ( global.mpt ) to the current project file. When you do this, you overwrite the modified version of the element in the current project file and restore the default settings. These settings, however, will not apply until you select the element again.
