The Gantt Chart Wizard dialog box closes and the view reflects the changes.

Scroll the Gantt bars and notice that the task bars for all critical tasks appear in red. Also notice that the link lines do not appear.

To restore the Gantt Chart view, you must first switch to another view since the Organizer cannot restore a current view. Switch to the Network Diagram view, open the Organizer, display the Views tab, and copy the Gantt Chart element from the ‘Global.MPT’ template to the ‘House13’ file. Select Yes when prompted to replace the view. Close the Organizer and switch to the Gantt Chart view. Display the Gantt bar for the first task and notice that the settings have been restored.

Discussion

You can use custom outline codes to organize project information. A custom outline code is a custom tag that you define. You can use these codes to group, view, filter, and sort tasks or resources. For example, you could organize resources by cost center for accounting purposes.

You create custom outline codes in the Outline Code Definition dialog box. In this dialog box, you set an alphanumeric outline code format, which is called a mask. When you create a custom outline code for tasks, the code mask includes the formatting for each outline level. For example, you could create a code where the first level consists of two uppercase letters, and the second level consists of the two uppercase letters followed by three numbers. You can also indicate the separator between the levels, such as a dash (-) or period (.). Since resources are not organized in levels, as tasks are, you can use the levels to specify additional formatting options for the code. For example, you could specify level one as two uppercase letters and level two as three numbers. For each resource, the outline code would be in the format AA-111. For resources, you could also select the Characters option from the Sequence list to enter a code made up of both numbers and levels, instead of creating a two-level code.

Outline codes are different from WBS (Work Breakdown Structure) codes in that they are not connected to the outline structure of your project and WBS codes only
