In order to enter the custom outline codes, you need to add the Outline Code (< custom code name> ) field to the view. Then, you can enter the appropriate code for each task or resource. If you do not enter the code in the proper format, a Microsoft Project warning box will advise you of this and indicate the correct format.

After creating a custom outline code, you can enter field data by inserting the custom field into a table. You can also add custom field values on the Custom Fields page in the Task Information or Resource Information dialog box.
