The Regents Review Spring 2019

DEPARTMENTAL NEWS Humanities RE This term Regents Park Community College was awarded a ‘Gold Standard’ for the RE Quality Mark. Regents Park is the only school in Hampshire to have achieved the gold standard. This award has been developed to celebrate good RE in all sectors and phases of education in England, Northern Ireland and Wales. There are three levels to the award and we are proud that the RE team has been awarded the top grade, one of the only schools in Hampshire to have achieved this! Congratulations to the hard work of the RE Team for their effort and their continual success!

RE & English Revision On Monday 8th March the RE and English team joined together for the entire day to support our students in Year 9 and Year 11. Together, we practiced writing exam style questions that they could be faced with in the GCSE style question. These sessions were hugely beneficial and helped all our students to develop their exam answers and were a nice break from our standard lessons! Well done to both teams for their hard work and the students for their effort to succeed! In the afternoon the students were lucky enough to receive a talk from Mr Bryan Huberman. He visited our school again to tell the moving tale of his father’s experiences. The students were very respectful and found his tale very moving. “ I found today really interesting. Finding out what happened to the Jews in their homes not just the camps was really moving ” Phoebe Davis “ Learning about the Angel of Death was very moving. ” Franek Kruczynski “ I have found today very interesting because I have found many facts that I did not know. ” Alex Gesteira “ The thing I found most interesting was learning about Dr Josef Mengele. ” Kayleigh Shaw

Holocaust Memorial Day January 2019 As part of their history education, students in Year 9 undertook a day focused on the sombre events of the Holocaust. Students were in the history department all day and discussed issues surrounding the persecution of the Jews, the experiences in the concentration camps and the legacy of the Holocaust, including more recent genocides. Students found the experience to be very rewarding and informative as it gave them a new view of the event they thought they knew so well.
