EXODUS

You must live with people to know their problems, and live with God in order to solve them. 10 THE ADAGE IS TRUE: The closer you are to the Creator the better you will know His creation (Exo 18:19 and Mt 9:1-4) 8. A good leader learns to follow the Master, not men (Exo 33:9-11) We must learn to lionize Christ, not men (Job 32:21-22, Rom 12:3, I Cor 4:6 and II Cor 3:5 & 12:7). 9. A good leader learns to involve all the people in the work (Num 11:24-30) THE ADAGE IS TRUE: People tend to only support what they help to create. By involving all the people in the work, a good leader can garrison what he conquers (Neh 2:17-18 & 3:1-32) 10. A good leader learns to stand for what’s right no matter what the cost (Num 14:1-6) A wise man once said: I don’t know the key to success, but the key to failure is trying to please everybody. 11 THE ADAGE IS TRUE: People who sell principles for popularity soon become penniless (Prov 29:25) 11. A good leader learns to live long enough to lead (Num 14:30,38) THE ADAGE IS TRUE: Present choices determine future consequences (Deut 8:1 & 30:19-20 and Prov 3:1-2,16 & 9:6) 12. A good leader learns to be SPIRIT -filled (Num 27:18-23) It’s one thing to claim SPIRIT -fullness, quite another to show it (Acts 4:13). 13. A good leader learns to wait on God’s timing (Num 27:18-23) THE ADAGE IS TRUE: Your patience with God determines His purpose with you (Psa 46:10) 14. A good leader learns to make the tough decisions (Num 32:12) Harvey Mackay noted: It isn’t the people you fire who make your life miserable, it’s the people you don’t. 12 THE ADAGE IS TRUE: In order to lead an orchestra, you must turn your back on the crowd (II Cor 7:8-12) 15. A good leader learns to be encouraging (positive) (Deut 1:38) Good leaders don’t necessarily have the best of everything; they just make the best of everything. The chief weapon in any leader’s arsenal is optimism, taking that which is negative and making it positive (Phil 4:4-13). THE ADAGE IS TRUE: For things to get better, you must get better 16. A good leader learns to meditate on past victories (Deut 3:21) Dwelling on previous victories gives a leader the tools necessary to encourage and strengthen those who follow him (I Chro 16:11-12). 17. A good leader learns to be strong (Deut 3:28) The strength to do right is not based on how much truth you possess, but on how much truth possesses you (Josh 1:6-8 & Eph 6:14). It’s called “character” (Isa 1:17). John Maxwell in The 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership notes: J.R. Miller once observed, “The only thing that walks back from the tomb with the mourners and refuses to be buried is the character of a man. This is true. What a man is survives him. It can never be buried.” 13 18. A good leader learns to always remain teachable (Deut 31:3,7,14,23) Benjamin Franklin noted: He that won’t be counseled can’t be helped. 14 THE ADAGE IS TRUE: A limit on what you will learn puts a limit on how well you can lead (II Tim 2:15) 19. A good leader learns to practice humility (Deut 34:9) Humility is not something you profess; it is something you practice (Jms 4:10 and I Pet 5:6). 20. A good leader learns to accept responsibility (Josh 1:1,2) John Maxwell, in his booklet, Leadership 101 , notes: Leadership is not a right; it’s a responsibility! 15 THE ADAGE IS TRUE: He who stays in the valley (rejects responsibility) never goes over the hill (leads others) (Jn 21:15-17) 4 “Abraham Lincoln Quotes.” brainyquote. 14 Jan 2008 . 5 “Quotes for Failure.” motivatingquotes. 14 Jan 2008 . 6 “Work Quotes Thomas Edison.” quotes-zone . 14 Jan 2008 . 7 “Donald Kendall.” quotationreference. 14 Jan 2008 . 8 Sarah McCann and Lynae Anderson. “Religion in the White House.” newsinitiative.org . 24 Aug 2007. 14 Jan 2008 . 9 DeMoss, Mark.
