The Mercy Seat 17 And thou shalt make a mercy seat of pure gold: two cubits and a half shall be the length thereof, and a cubit and a half the breadth thereof. 18 And thou shalt make two 6 cherubims of gold, of beaten work shalt thou make them, in the two ends of the mercy seat. 19 And make one cherub on the one end, and the other cherub on the other end: even of the mercy seat shall ye make the cherubims on the two ends thereof. 20 And the cherubim shall stretch forth their wings on high, covering the mercy seat with their wings, and their faces shall look one to another; 7 toward the mercy seat shall the faces of the cherubims be. 21 And thou shalt put the mercy seat above upon the ark; and in the ark thou shalt put the testimony that I shall give thee.

The Ark of the Covenant 10 And they shall make an 4 ark of shit- tim wood: two cubits and a half shall be the length thereof, and a cubit and a half the breadth thereof, and a cubit and a half the height thereof. 11 And thou shalt overlay it with pure gold, within and without shalt thou over- lay it, and shalt make upon it a crown of gold round about. 12 And thou shalt cast four rings of gold for it, and put them in the four corners thereof; and two rings shall be in the one side of it, and two rings in the other side of it. 13 And thou shalt make staves of shittim

22 And there I will meet with thee, and I will commune with thee from above the mercy seat, from between the two cheru bims which are upon the ark of the testi- mony, of all things which I will give thee in commandment unto the children of Israel. 25:3 a The “ offering ” here consisted of all kinds of resources. Each item represented something concerning CHRIST’S person.

25:3 b Gold depicts CHRIST’S deity (Jn 8:58 and Heb 1:8). 25:3 c Silver depicts CHRIST’S redemption (Rom 3:24). 25:3 d Brass depicts CHRIST’S judgment (Mt 27:45-46 and Heb 12:2). 25:4 a Blue depicts CHRIST’S heavenly nature (Jn 8:23). 25:4 b Purple depicts CHRIST’S royalty (Mt 25:31 and Heb 10:12) 25:4 c Scarlet depicts CHRIST’S sacrifice (I Cor 5:7 and Heb 9:14).

25:10 The Ark of the Covenant was made of gold and wood, depicting CHRIST as both God and man. It represented the God-man who saves us and feeds us through His Word (Law and manna - Rom 10:17 and Mt 4:4). One day, after our resurrection, we shall rule and reign with Him (Crown - Rev 19:12 & 20:4,6). Three items of importance were placed within the Ark : (1) the Law (Exo 25:16); (2) the Golden Pot of manna (Exo 16:33); and (3) Aaron’s rod that budded (Num 17:10). 25:17 The mercy seat was made of pure gold, depicting CHRIST as God. It represented the only way sinful man could come to a Holy God - through God’s blood (Acts 20:28, Rom 3:25 and I Jn 2:2 & 4:10). The mercy seat sat on top of the Ark of the Covenant, which contained the Law (Gal 3:24-26) and represented the finished work of Christ (Jn 19:30).
