GENERAL DATA PROTECTION REGULATION (GDPR) TRAINING FOR AFFILIATED UNIONS

GDPR GOES LIVE ON 25TH MAY 2018 AND IT WILL HAVE AN IMPACT ON EVERY UNION AT EVERY LEVEL.

The GFTU has organised a series of training opportunities to ensure that unions are aware of the new data protection legislation, the role of the Information Commissioner’s Office, and the data protection obligations that they need to adhere to in the new regulations. There can never be too much training on this issue and any union officer, lay or paid, handling any members’ information should be fully briefed on the issues. We are offering a range of training options.

An Introduction to GDPR A one day course for anybody who has responsibility for data capture, membership, marketing, sharing information. The introduction will explore how to implement new systems, remain compliant, sanctions and the role of the office of the Information Commissioner (ICO) and how to avoid pitfalls. Delivered by Andy Birchall at Quorn Grange Hotel, on Friday 18th May (9:30 to 5:00pm) and the cost will be £120 per person (including hot drinks and a light buffet lunch) for members of Affiliated Unions and £170 for delegates from non GFTU affiliated organisations. On-line Learning Webinar 1 Introduction - Date Protection Law the 1998 Act, why the change, undertaking a self-assessment of your current data protection arrangements, getting started with GDPR. (Timing: online by 7pm on 1st May) Webinar 2 Cyber Security, International Transfers, Personal Data breaches, Exemptions, Action planning. (Timing: online by 7pm on 7th May) Webinar 3 Lawful basis for processing, Individual rights, Accountability and Governance, Reviewing your Data protection and GDPR systems and quality assurance to ensure you are currently compliant, protect member’s data and remain on the right side of the ICO. (Timing: online by 7pm on 10th May)

Other Opportunities Further opportunities for training exist with David Green through Green Pepper training; who are running a series of half-day workshops for VCSE, third sector and other civil society organisations. David is the former GFTU Education Officer and had wide experience through the Movement on this issue. These workshops will be held on/at: 23 April 2018, Bedford 24 April 2018, Risley, Derbyshire (near J25 M1) 26 April 2018, Peterborough Each workshop will look at what the GDPR does; and how this will affect the way in which organisations collect and process data. The main emphasis will be on the steps needed to comply with the GDPR. Attendees can bring their own policies and drafts for consideration. The workshop approach will be hands-on and interactive, with plenty of opportunity for questions. As outcomes, participants will: Have an improved understanding of the GDPR. Be aware of their organisation’s duties, and the steps needed to ensure compliance with data protection law. Be more confident in applying best practice to data protection. David has many years of experience dealing with employment relations, employment law and management issues, including in the area of data protection. The cost of these workshops is £32 for Bedford and Peterborough and £35 for Risely.

The cost of the 3 sessions lasting 1½ hours each will be £15 each or £25 for all 3.

A GDPR Masterclass A one day session for people with GDPR responsibilities, the Data Controller of organisations, people that have engaged in earlier learning about GDPR etc. learning lessons and moving forwards… focussing on the practical steps you could take and taking a personal perspective to ensure you are protected. Delivered by Craig Steele and a colleague at Quorn Grange Hotel, Leicestershire on 26th June and the cost will be £120 per person (including hot drinks and a light buffet lunch) for members of Affiliated Unions and £170 for delegates from elsewhere.
