615 1949 (6 Mar.) An air mail cover to USA, on reverse bearing SYS CNC surcharged $2,000 on $5 in pair, London 4th print $5,000, Dah Tung 2nd print $50,000, each tied by bilingual ‘NANKING’ cds. Sent from Hollington K. Tong (董顯光) a famous journalist. Photo HK$ 400 - 500 616 1948 (11 Aug.) An air mail Gold Yuan cover from Shanghai to Zurich, Switzerland. Tied by bilingual Postage Meter $5550,000. Showing the scarce ‘Postage Paid/No.4/U2’ meter mark in red. At left edge, handstamped ‘40377*18.VIII.48.3-4’ arrival marking in black straight. The international airmail postage rate was $150,000 for surface and $400,000 for airmail. This rate was only used 20 days from 1st Aug. to 20th Aug. 1948. Center folded, very rare. A mixed franking airmail cover from Siangtan, Hunan to USA bearing on front Gold Yuan SYS Shanghai Union 50c, untied and crossed the stamp by cyan only, on reverse with Third Dah Tung print $3,000,000 block of 10, tied by ‘SIANGTAN’ cds, fine mixed issue franking and believed to be a very early usage of the Gold Yuan stamp mixed with National Currency stamp. A CNC and Gold Yuan mixed frankings registered cover to Canton, on reverse bearing SYS 3rd Shanghai Dah Tung print $3,000,000 and Gold Yuan Dah Yeh surcharged 20c on $30 in pair (left stamp damaged at bottom left corner) and 50c on Shanghai Union Press $70, both tied by char. ‘FUKIEN/FOOCHOW’ cds, with a few minor tone spots. bilingual ‘CANTON/25.12.48’ arrival cds on front.
