Volvo Trucks SA retained top position in Sales, Service and Parts in the industry-wide Scott Byers survey.

For the first time in 18 years, Volvo Trucks South Africa sold in excess of 2 000 units in the EHCV market in 2017.

Elsewhere, Volvo Bus saw deliveries increase by 1% to 61 units in the local market during 2017, according to Marius Botha, GM of Volvo Bus at Volvo Group Southern Africa. Volvo Bus has seen a rise in its local market share in recent years, having finished 2017 with 5,3% overall market share of the Bus segment, up from 2,8% in 2016. “We finished 2017 with a strong 34% market share of the rear engine bus segment, up from the 27% recorded the previous year,” says Botha. Christensson says 2017 was a very good year, not only for Volvo Group Southern Africa, but the global Volvo Group at large, which achieved the highest sales and operating income in its history. “Most global markets did very well in 2017, resulting in continued improved profitability for the Volvo Group,” says Christensson. “Fourth quarter sales were up 11% to SEK335- billion, translating into the group’s highest net sales and operating income so far for a Q4. The Truck division adjusted its operating margin to 9,5%, up from 8,7%, while the Construction Equipment division also adjusted its operating margin to 10,9%, up from 3,8%.” The Volvo Group saw global truck deliveries rising to 186 294 in 2017. Volvo Trucks had a total of 34 293 truck deliveries for the year, representing an increase of 6 359 unit sales compared with 2016.
