Agile Fundamentals Instructor-Led Virtual

Release Planning Process

1. Delivery team assesses prioritized backlog 2. Review sizing― resize if team doesn’t agree 3. Order stories: Current release, next, future 4. Refine initial roadmap for upcoming release 5. Slice the stories into smaller units that can be completed within one iteration 6. Prioritize stories and risks in current release

148

Buffering the Release Plan

• For first few iterations, or for new teams, add buffers to the planning velocity to accommodate:

– Known risks – Unknown risks

• Not needed for established teams or after the first few iterations – Use actual average velocity

149

Developing the Initial Delivery Estimate

• Historic or initial velocity: 25 • Buffering: 20% • Planning velocity: 20 • Extra iterations: 3 iterations • Iteration 0: 1 iteration • Iteration length = 2 weeks Example Backlog: 225 points

We will need about 32 weeks to get this project done
