Dutch-based engineering consultancy Pondera and the Korean engineering company Hanmi Global have signed a contract with Jeju HanlimOffshore Wind Co to act as owner’s engineers on the 100MW Jeju Hanlim offshore wind farm off the coast of South Korea. The project is the third offshore wind facility in Korean waters and the second commercial-scale project. Korea is expediting its offshore wind energy sector and expects to add 13GW of capacity by 2030. Jeju Hanlim is located near the Tamra offshore project, near the coast of Jeju Island, south-west of the mainland. The project developer consortium is led by Korea Electric Power Corporation Engineering and Construction (E&C).

The new factory in Laos Japanese wire maker Bando Densen Co has established a cable plant in Laos as part of its “China plus one” strategy, expanding its production bases amid the ongoing US-China trade row. The Bando Densen Lao Co facility began cable production in July. The company has rented a Taiwanese firm’s 3,100m 2 premises to produce round multicore cables. KeisukeMaejima, deputy managing director of Bando Densen Lao, said the company is looking towards annual sales of $6 million. The products will be distributed throughout southeast Asia before expanding to Japan. The company is also considering shifting the labor-intensive assembly process for flexible flat cables, currently produced in Thailand, to the new Laos plant to take advantage of cheaper labor costs, Mr Maejima added. As well as the Thai plant, and three factories in Japan, Bando has its overseas head office in Hong Kong with production bases in Shanghai and Shenzhen in China.
