LEADING THE WAY FOR FOOTBALL CLUBS IN EUROPE | No. 7 - 2013/14

FOREWORD ///////////////////////////////////////////

With the UEFA Champions League Final taking place in Lisbon on Saturday, the 2013/14 club football season is almost over. Before we let you go for your well-deserved summer break, there are a few important topics, which we have summarised in this newsletter for you to be aware of. As I am sure you have all heard, UEFA has rendered its first decisions regarding clubs in breach with the FFP break-even requirement. Nine clubs have accepted the terms of the CFCB Investigatory Chamber by signing settlement agreements. ECA welcomes the fact that UEFA is taking the rules seriously and is acting consistently. We now need to continue on the path we have chosen to allow for the club football business to be credible and sustainable. Regarding the upcoming world cup in Brazil, there have been new developments recently with regards to the official release period and, consequently, the scope of the Club Protection Programme (insurance). Further to a request by ECA, the CPP was now extended to cover national team activities taking place prior to the mandatory release period for the FIFA World Cup 2014. Last but not least, since in the meantime most of the domestic championships have come to an end, I would like to congratulate every domestic league and cup winner for their success. Congratulations as well to Sevilla FC for winning the 2013/14 edition of the UEFA Europa League in Turin last week!
