Clean fill, compost, & wood chips are available for free if you shovel them yourself. We can load a trailer or truck bed with clean fill, wood chips, or compost for $10 per front end bucket full.

Buxton uses a single sort system for recycling. All plastic containers #1 through #7, paper products, cardboard, glass, and metal cans can be mixed together and placed in our recycling compacter. Please don't put ceramics, plastic bags, film wrap, styrofoam, batteries, vinyl siding, toys, or bubble wrap in the recycling compactor. Metal: Any item 50% or more metal by weight is free as long as it doesn't have pressurized gas like propane or refrigerant. Please remove gas from engines. Oil tanks must be dry & have basketball size hole for inspection. The Buxton Transfer Station has a licensed compost facility on site. We accept compostable organics for free. Compostable organics include grass, hay, leaves, garden trimmings, fruits, vegetables, manure, animal bedding (not the fabric kind), shredded paper, paper leaf bags, wood chips, and mulch. Please don't put plastic bags, plant pots, or cat/dog/human feces in the compost area.

The Transfer Station is closed on Sundays and Mondays. Holidays that fall on a Sunday or Monday are observed on the following Tuesday.

2026 Curbside Pick-up Holidays :

Curbside Pick-up Rules During New Year's Week 2026: Thursday the 1st will be picked up Friday the 2nd, Friday's route will be picked up on Saturday the 3rd.. During Thanksgiving week , Thursday's route (the 26th) will be picked up Friday the 27th, and Friday's route will be picked up on Saturday the 28th. During Christmas week, Friday's route (the 25th) will be picked up on Saturday the 26th. During New Year's week 2027, Friday the 1st will be picked up Saturday the 2nd. Casella provides Buxton's trash pickup service and can be reached at 883-9777 for curbside trash issues. Trash must be out by 5 am, but not before 4 pm of the previous evening. Pick-up times change frequently, the truck may arrive any time during the day. Trash must be in a garbage bag placed in the Casella trash can with lid closed. No loose items will be picked up. Your trash will not be picked up if you put demo debris, electronic waste, brush, or anything other than normal household trash in your trash cart. The trash truck has cameras that will record inappropriate items. Trash cans must have 3 feet of open space on each side to be picked up. Snowstorms do not affect curbside pick-up schedules If you're uncomfortable putting trash out during a major snowstorm, bring it to the Transfer Station for free.
