ANIME ROUND-UP

MUST HAVE

Whether you’re shopping for something special for the otaku in your life, for a burgeoning anime fan or for a treat for yourself, here’s a quick look at some must-own anime favourites with something for everyone.

Evangelion 1.11: You Are [Not] Alone

This spit-and-polish of one of anime’s most enduring franchises is not only gorgeous to look at, but condenses much of the story into a tight little feature-length production. Still expect much angst and wailing. Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood A series that delivers on just about every front, FMA:B is sure to elicit laughs, tears and adrenalin in the beautiful and action-packed story of brotherly love. K-On! Don’t expect the same sort of action and adventure in the series, which instead delivers a heartfelt look at a group of high school friends and their hard fought struggle to take the stage at Budokan. Cowboy Bebop An absolute classic which really needs no introduction, Bebop melds action, adventure, comedy and drama into a wonderfully animated, bounty hunting romp, backed by one of the best soundtracks in all of anime. My Neighbour Totoro Ghibli fans love Totoro. Berserk fans love Totoro. Everyone loves Totoro! The eponymous Ghibli character grunts and howls his way into our hearts in this magical, timeless classic.

Free! Eternal Summer Season 2

I t’s another big month of anime titles with a special number of Limited Edition releases hitting shelves alongside their standard edition brethren. Prepare for ol’ man Ryan’s anime flashback. Many moons ago, circa 2003 or so, Madman released a ton of awesome limited editions including cool collector's boxes and memorabilia not available elsewhere, and it is nothing short of awesome to see this kind of cool swag returning to JB stores again. The pick of the limited edition releases would be Free! Eternal Summer: Season 2 + OVA Collection , which comes in collectors packaging with a character guide, exclusive art cards and a sheet of stickers from the Iwatobi and Samezuka swim clubs. I’m man enough to admit that this series is chock full of total dreamboats. Love Live! School Idol Project: Season 2 has special, limited packaging and a character guide included. The only thing missing from this release are the School Idols themselves! Not to be left behind, Sword Art Online: Season 2, Part 4 comes with a collector's box to house Parts 3 and 4, some very pretty postcards and an even prettier artbook. Keep an eye out, too, for Bleach Bankai Boxes 3 and 4 , both of which are available as limited edition sets. Elsewhere, Gundam Reconguista in G

wraps up with Part 2 in a subtitled-only release, while Dramatical Murder , Tokyo ESP , Lord Marksman and Vanadis all hit shelves in complete collections. Also available this month are shonen stalwarts Naruto Shippuden Collection 25 , One Piece (UNCUT) Collection 36 and the Bleach Movie Collection (movies 1-4) ,
