Visitor's Guide 2022-2023

DAY TWO

4 SEIZE THE DAY

Greater Portland is the first major U.S. metro area to greet the day. Start yours by watching the mesmerizing sunrise over the ocean from your hotel room window, a waterfront perch, an area lighthouse, or the deck of a Casco Bay harbor ferry. The region’s historical sites offer you a fascinating look at culture and arts of yore. Visit a museum home for a glimpse into life in another age; hear about the famous and infamous buried in Eastern Cemetery; learn about Maine’s abolitionist movement on the Portland FreedomTrail; explore the hexagonal Fort Gorges, accessible only by boat. [p. 24-28] With so many talented chefs, restaurants, bakeries, and breweries to taste, it’s little surprise Bon Appétit once named Portland “Restaurant City of the Year”. From fresh flavorful seafood, to wicked whoopee pies, your taste buds will be singing. [p. 30-37] There’s always a variety of performances going on from ballet and theater, to opera and the symphony, to concerts with national headliners and local musicians at indoor music halls, parks, and cozy pubs. It’s hard not to plan a fun night out. [p. 19, 22]
