DAY THREE 8 RELAX & UNWIND

Maine’s largest city is surrounded by land and seascapes that will recharge your batteries. Meander along over 70 miles of Portland Trails, through leafy woods, rocky shores, and peaceful salt marshes. Climb to the top of Pownal’s Bradbury Mountain and view a carpet of autumn colors below you. Go bird-watching at an Audubon sanctuary or right in Portland’s Evergreen Cemetery. You can even hike to a waterfall within Portland city limits! Many local coffeeshops and teahouses offer cozy interiors in which to while away the time while indulging in bites and brews. If you’d rather wet your whistle with a beer or cocktail, try a local brewery, distillery, or winery for your afternoon pick-me-up. [p. 31, 33] FIND A KEEPSAKE It’s always fun to shop for souvenirs when you’ve gotten to know a destination. Maybe it’s a practical bag made from authentic sails, or a unique craft beer that delighted you. Perhaps you’ll bring home a funny tee shirt or a locally designed piece of jewelry or artwork. Whatever the memory, we hope it brings you back to Maine soon. [p. 40-44]
