NEW 682 EXTRA-HEAVY DUTY TRUCK RANGE: ready for the challenges of South Africa

I veco has launched its New 682 heavy duty truck range, featuring product im- provements and developments specifi- cally designed to suit tough Southern Afri- can countries conditions and terrains. The vehicle was presented during NAMPO, one of the largest shows of agricultural machinery and equipment in the Southern hemisphere. The New 682 is a product inspired by the best of European design with several com- mon features of the Iveco European-pro- duced ranges, and will be assembled at the Rosslyn plant in South Africa. The New 682 will be available for both the SACU mar- ket and most Right Hand Drive Countries in Sub-Saharan Africa, complementing the current Iveco South African Range. “Engineered to the highest technical spec- ifications entirely by Iveco, the New 682 maintains the optimal balance between cost efficiency and strength,” says Christo- phe Longuet, Marketing Manager at Iveco South Africa. “Feature enhancements mean additional comfort, less weight and higher payload - ideally suited for any extreme mission into Africa.”

The cab is extremely comfort- able: the design with low engine hood cre- ates a huge internal space. The height of the cabin of 2 200 mm allows the driver an easier life on board and provides an ideal living and relaxing environment. Moreover, the large windscreen allows optimum visibil- ity, the steering wheel is fully adjustable and all the controls can be easily identified and quickly reached to assure safe control of the vehicle at all times. The New 682 is powered by Iveco Cursor 9 and Cursor 13 engines setting a new stan- dard of reliability and performance: these engines, equipped with the latest generation common rail fuel injection system, generate maximum torque availability in a wide oper- ative range starting from a very low rpm rate (1 000 rpm), delivering optimum elasticity and top driving performance in any condition. Versatility remains a top priority, balancing the demand for strong traction, high speed, heavy loads and low fuel consumption.

The New 682 is offered in 4X2 and 6X4 versions with a driveline equipped with two different types of rear axles: Hub reduction and Single reduction. The wide choice of rear axle ratios enables the New 682 to match the market demand for strong trac- tion, high speed, heavy loads and low fuel consumption. The gearboxes available on the New 682 are all about ergonomics and performance: it can be equipped with 9 or 12 speed mechanical gearbox depending on the versions and torque required. “Iveco’s reputation for ruggedness and reli- ability remains unmatched in this category,” adds Longuet. “Backed by our well known and trust-worthy network, the New 682 sets the bar in terms of cost effectiveness, reli- ability and quality.” The company plans to double sales of the New 682 in the region within two years.
