AOAC ERP Gluten Assays - Dec 2018
The results from all the collaborators will be compiled and analyzed by the Study Director and sent to the AOAC Statistician for statistical review. Upon approval of the statistician, the study report will be written and submitted to the AOAC Expert Review Panel on allergens for review and the approval of an AOAC Official Method ℠ Final Action, and subsequent publication in the Journal of AOAC International . As many written documents are subject to interpretation, a collaborator may feel that there are instructions that are ambiguous. a) If there are general questions about the study itself, please contact the Study Director for assistance. b) If there are, in your opinion, questions about the methodology that you feel will seriously jeopardize the study; please contact the Study Director. c) It is recommended that a second experienced analyst take part in an initial review of the method, and be consulted prior to any course of action with regard to interpretation and subsequent deviations. d) In the event that parts of the method appear to be subject to interpretation, take the most reasonable course, then note the step or instruction that was in question. Record what exactly was done, and indicate why this step or instruction was thought to be ambiguous. Providing notes concerning ambiguous instructions (using the data return sheet) will help produce a clearly written final report for publication. The practice and test samples will be provided to each collaborator. The samples will be shipped at 4 °C with a return receipt document. Collaborators will be directed to store the test samples in a refrigerator until analysis began. The 42 test samples will consist of six matrices (not including practice samples). All 42 test samples will be randomly coded. Practice samples (control 1 to 3) can be treated similarly to test samples. The practice samples contain approx. 2 g of food matrix and the test samples contain approx. 5 g of food matrix. ‐ Review the written method, taking note of the list of materials and reagents. Be sure to note materials and supplies not specifically mentioned in the method (e.g. spatulas, ethanol, extraction vials). Only about 5 days have been scheduled for you to obtain the required materials and reagents. It is preferable to have all required items in place when the shipment of study materials arrives. ‐ It is stated policy of the AOAC to not require specific brands or vendors for materials, reagents and supplies except in limited cases. The term “or equivalent” is used in conjunction with any recommended suppliers. It is important that the equivalency of other products be carefully determined prior to use. 2. Deviations 3.
