Only a few genuine unused examples of No. 1 exist. Stamps often offered have had pen- markings removed. The unused catalogue value is for a stamp without gum. Stamps with No. 1 was reprinted in 1914 and 1924 unwatermarked. Lowest value reprint, $75. original gum sell for much more.

In this issue there are 12 types each of Nos. 16, 17, 18 and 19; 12 types of No. 20 and 20 types of No. 21. The differences are in the words of value. Nos. 10, 12, 16, 17, 19 and 21 were re- released in 1888 and used until March 31, 1908. Used values of these stamps are for examples canceled in this later period, usually with a two-ring cancellation. Examples bearing clear dated cancellations before 1888 are worth considerably more, as follows: No. 10 $165, No. 12 $70, No. 16 $60, No. 17 $100, No. 17b $450, No. 19 $90, No. 21 $100. No. 21 exists imperf. Value, unused without gum $800. No. 19 comes on thin and thick paper. For surcharges see Nos. 62-63.
