APEGBC Continuing Professional Development Personal Investment. Professional Commitment.

New CPD Recording Centre Now Live To support the new CPD requirements, APEGBC has launched a new and improved online CPD Recording Centre. The CPD Recording Centre provides members with a convenient and secure place to track their professional devel- opment hours (PDHs). Speci cally, it: • Allows earned professional development hours (PDHs) to be claimed in the year earned or carried forward to future reporting years. • Assists by tracking the limits associated with the amount of professional development hours (PDHs) a member may claim per category, per cal- endar year–displaying the remaining available hours left to be claimed when entering CPD activity. • Automatically tracks professional development hours (PDHs) accrued by members for taking APEGBC seminars. Completed APEGBC seminars will automatically appear in the member’s CPD Recording Centre—thereby reducing data entry and making it easier to track professional develop- ment activities. To access the CPD Recording Centre, visit www.apeg.bc.ca/prodev/record- ing.html. Use of the recording centre is voluntary. Online Learning Centre Available to Members The Online Learning Centre is an online library of educational resources from APEGBC events including MP3 downloads, presentation handouts and record- ings of previously held APEGBC seminars, such as the Builders Lien Act and Construction Law for Consultants. Additionally, session recordings from the 2011 Annual Conference are avail- able for purchase through the APEGBC Online Learning Centre. Access the Online Learning Centre at www.apeg.bc.ca/cpdonlinelearning/. “Whether you’re in Dawson Creek or Fort St John there is an opportunity to participate in CPD wherever you are. It really is exible, it is really enjoyable—it doesn’t have to be expensive or time consuming. You can t in CPD when- ever you have time.” -James Kay PEng, Kelowna For more information, visit: www.apeg.bc.ca/prodev/ or contact APEGBC Professional Development at (604) 430-8035 or 1-888-430-8035.

As regulated professionals, members have a personal responsibility to develop and maintain their knowledge and skills to ensure their competence as practis- ing engineers and geoscientists. However, more than this, a commitment to continuous learning is an investment in your career, facilitating personal and professional growth, and increasing your value to clients and employers. What’s New? New CPD Guideline Now in Effect Members are reminded that Council approved a new Continuing Professional Development Guideline aligned with the requirements of the Association of Professional Engineers, Geologists, and Geophysicists of Alberta (APEGGA). The new guideline took e ect January 2012. APEGBC has created a video to help inform members about the new re- quirements, which can be viewed at www.apeg.bc.ca/prodev/pdreq.html. The video highlights the requirements of the CPD guideline, demonstrates the ease of reporting CPD, and provides members with information on the many ways to gain CPD hours. For a copy of the CPD Guideline, please visit the APEGBC website at www. apeg.bc.ca/go/cpd. Declaring CPD Compliance for the 2011 Reporting Year During the membership renewal process, APEGBC asks members to indicate whether they have met the requirements of the Continuing Professional Devel- opment (CPD) Guideline for the 2011 calendar year by signing a statement on their 2012 annual membership renewal form, or by checking a box during the online renewal process. Compliance with the guideline is recommended but not mandatory; however members who choose to declare compliance with the guideline are recognized with a “Declared CPD Compliant” note in the online public member directory. Member declaration of compliance provides the Association with a way to demonstrate to the public that its members are keeping up to date in their area of practice. To comply with the CPD Guideline for 2011, members must complete an average of 30 Professional Development Hours (PDH) per year (90 PDH on a three-year rolling total) in at least two of the four categories. If you did not indicate CPD compliance on the member renewal form and would like to update your member record, you can do so online through the APEGBC Online Member Portal, under “CPD Reporting”where you will be prompted to indicate your compliance and report your CPD hours.
