Swans Room News

The Swans have been very busy throughout August and have celebrated a number of exciting times. We started the month with our ‘Pirate Week’, and the children had a fantastic week participating in lots of themed activities. The Swans designed their own treasure maps, with ‘x’ marking the spot for the treasure, also used water and teabags to create an old and authentic effect. We then went into the Big Garden on an exciting treasure hunt as we received a message from Captain Blackbeard that he had left us lots of golden coins! The children were fantastic at following the clues to each area of the garden; eventually uncovering the hidden gold! Then the Swans have also been learning all about Jamaica which was our Country of the Month! We have also celebrated Carnival Week this week, with the children dressing up in lots of bright colours, designing their own carnival masks, making their own Jamaican music using pots and pans, and even exploring a multi coloured rice tray, filling and emptying lots of different containers! As well as this, the Swans have also learnt about Jamaica and even made the Jamaican flag using fruit. The children were able to wash their hands and cut up all the fruit independently. We’ve also been looking at traditional foods and clothes worn in Jamaica, watching lots of videos of Carnival Week in Jamaica. Finally, as always, we have been participating in lots of phonics and maths activities, including threading, practicing writing names, matching objects to numeral cards and may more. The Swans have had a very busy month!
