Paw on Heart - Dog Therapy Visit

We were very lucky to have received a visit from Paw on Heart, with Jennie and her lovely dog Millie! The Children listened carefully as Jennie spoke to the children about safety when saying “hello” and stroking a dog. Jennie showed the children a range of pictures of dogs and asked if they could spot differences and similarities between them! It was then time to learn how dogs feel and how we feel in different situations. Jennie asked, ‘Would you like someone to pat you on the head whilst you were having dinner?’, and the children giggled saying ‘No!’, which led onto her explanation that dogs wouldn’t like it either, helping the children to develop boundaries and respect when around animals. She also taught us what to do if we don’t want to say hello, standing up ‘tall like a tree’ spreading their ‘branches’ (arms) and closing their ‘twigs’ (fingers), then crossing their arms and looking down to the ‘roots’ (feet), letting the dog know not to say “hello”! We thoroughly enjoyed meeting Jennie and Millie, some children even gave Millie a little stroke before she left, and all washing their hands carefully before tea!
