Men’s style

Kind of blue

Men’s style trends fall into two categories: those that inspire you for the months ahead – either selectively or wholeheartedly – and those you’d rather forget. While we won’t try to second guess your stance on this season’s penchant for bright orange outerwear and patterned silk trousers, one quietly pervading theme between now and autumn is a color more closely associated with the streets of Mayfair than the runways of Milan. Blue, in all its subtle variations, is back, and the only “rule” is to pick a shade – light or dark, or somewhere in between – and run with it. This season’s collections exemplify its versatility across the style spectrum, none more so than Louis Vuitton, where designer Kim Jones’s denim- hued, double-breasted suits with leather-embossed buttons contrast sharply with the relaxed-yet-elegant navy flannel silhouettes of the maison’s newly-established Formal Collection. Elsewhere, Berluti’s Alessandro Sartori has used origami-inspired materials to fashion what he calls sports couture, with lightweight, blue-grey knitted cotton jackets and at Dunhill, the theme is escape. Plan yours in a blue linen peak-lapel suit tailored with the traveling man in mind.
