ITALIAN FINE TAILORING FRAGRANCES AND WHAT THEY SAY ABOUT YOUR STYLE

Matching a scent to what you are wearing should be considered an essential part of dressing. If your ensemble is casual, try something fresh – it gives an air of being carefree, but still put together. If the look is black tie, try something a little more seductive – edgy, but still elegant.

THE ENDORSEMENT: TROUBADOUR CARD HOLDER Bret Easton Ellis’s American Psycho did a lot to elevate the quality of business cards, but where to store one’s watermarked, off-white cards is less clear. Troubadour Goods, the understated luggage maker, has the perfect solution: a slim, durable holder with a swivel-top closure. Order your cards from Stern Graveur, fromwhere Hermès orders its stationery. $200, troubadourgoods.com Brioni’s first fragrance in more than 50 years embodies the luxury tailor’s uncompromising attention to detail. An Italian tailoring institution renowned for its su misura (custom- made) suiting, Brioni was one of the first menswear houses to launch a fragrance – an eau de cologne – in 1959. While its fellow tailors have released scores of scents over the years, Brioni has kept to tailoring until now, releasing only a limited- edition scent in 2009. Its second standalone release is an eponymous eau de toilette that manifests the label’s classical masculine elegance via a blend of citrus, florals and wood. “When a man wears a custom Brioni

suit, he exudes a sexiness because he feels confident and protected,” reasons the company’s creative director, Brendan Mullane. “We wanted to bottle that feeling with a sensual and elegant scent.” Perfumer Raymond Matts has achieved this duality of the hedonic and the refined via three distinctive notes: the first is a sparkling, cold- pressed Sicilian lemon; the second, a sharply floral composition of magnolia, iris and violet; the third is charged with an intense amalgam of saffron, oud and liquorice, which gives the whole its unequivocal esprit and panache. $340, brioni.com
