Toreros Set Program Record by Advancing to Sweet 16 Led by the 2004 wee Coach of the Year Jennifer Petrie and wee Player of the Year Devon Forster, San Diego (25-4) celebrated its most successful season in program history in 2004. USO won the West Coast Conference Championship (a league that sent four teams to the NCAA Tournament) outright, posting a perfect 14-0 conference record. It was San Diego's first WCC Championship since winning back-to-back titles in 1997 & 1998. Never before has a Torero team finished WCC play unbeaten and never before has San Diego advanced past the NCAA's second round . San Diego received a No. 9 national seed in the NCAA Tournament and achieved a national ranking as high as No. 11 by the AVCA on December 6, 2004. San Diego won 18 consecutive matches from October 1-December 4. Prior to San Diego's championship season of 2004, USD's best league finish was 13-1 in 1997. Prior to being ranked 11th in early December of 2004, San Diego's previous top ranking had been No. 16 by the AVCA in 1998 & 2003 . 2006 NCAA Sweet-16 26-6 Record . 13- 1 wee

Toreros Reach Sweet-16 for Second Time in Three Years

Led by the 2006 wee Coach of the Year Brent Hilliard and wee Pl ayer of the Yea r Kri sten Carl son,San Diego (26-6) ce lebrated its second trip to the NCAA Tournament Sweet-16 in the past three sea sons. USO won the West Coast Conference Championship (a league that sent three teams to the NCAA Tour- • nament) outright,posting a 13- 1conference record.It was Sa n Diego's second • WCCchampionship in the past three season, and fourth overall.This was only the second time in program history that the Toreros adva nced beyond the second round of the NCAA Tournament. San Diego received a No. 16 national • seed and we re sent out to Knoxville, Tenn. for the first and second round, defeating Jacksonville State 3-0, and No. 25 Duke 3-2.The Toreros then saw their run come to an end w ith a 3-0 loss to the eventual national champion, Nebraska Corn huskers out in Gainesville, Fl a.
