Chebeague Transportation Company Newsletter June 2025
Freight Policy Space on our ferries is limited, and we carry everything from groceries to home appliances. As personal and commercial freight increases, it’s more important than ever to follow our policies—and to consider using CTC’s barge service or Casco Bay Lines’ excellent freight service when appropriate—to help avoid delays. Commercial and bulk freight may only be transported on the 6:30/6:45am through 12:00/12:15pm ferries. Personal bags and groceries always take priority , and bulk freight will only be loaded if there’s enough room on the stern. Boat crew will not lift items over 50 lbs and will only load freight at their discretion. Only ten gas-powered appliances can be transported per trip. The sixth will have to wait for the next ferry. All unaccompanied shipments must be labeled with the customer’s name, and the office must be notified in advance. If your item is bulk or over 50 lbs, you must load it yourself. Freight fees for commercial and bulk items will be applied and billed by the office. If possible, please call ahead to pay. The deckhand may be able to help with billing questions. Left-behind freight : It happens! If your item doesn’t fit, the crew will recommend the next available trip. During busy holiday weekends, that might mean the last trip of the day— this is why we encourage moving large items early, before the “grocery rush”.

Buy tickets in advance and send them to your guests ahead of time. Label all your luggage —we see more lost-and found items during this week than any other time. Give yourself extra time for boarding and travel, especially midday.

No one is going to blame your for grabbing the wrong tote bag out of the many on the stern of the ferry, we’ve all done it. Just don’t hang on to it. Bring it back to the ferry! That's often where people look first.
