During December holiday vacations each year, we hold our successful “Kids Volunteer for the American Red Cross”. Kids and young adults of all ages help assemble “comfort kits” used by the Red Cross for emergency evacuations. We like to think – as one of our committee members explained – that we, “teach your children the value of volunteering.” Several of our mem- bers volunteer as mentors for both young children and high school students. In the spring, we conduct a “Clean Your Cupboards” food do- nation program for the Palm Beach County Food Bank. We have worked with the Dress for Success program in Palm Beach in donating needed items that include basic cosmetics as well as work clothes. Our residents have contributed for several seasons to The Lord’s Place Thrift Shop in our “Clean Your Closets” volunteer program. We are expanding our relationship with The Lord’s Place in assisting homeless people become independent. We expect to provide tutoring programs for interviews and the preparation of resumes. We are also planning another donation of no-longer-used golf clubs for programs of The First Tee. For more information about opportunities in the Volunteer Match Program, contact any of the Volunteer Match Program Coordinators listed above. We would like to thank the French- man’s Creek Marketing Department for their help in planning programs and preparing our brochures and marketing commu- nications. The Frenchman’s Creek Volunteer Match Program was estab- lished in November 2014 with the objective of encouraging and coordinating the matching of members’ interests with local vol- unteer opportunities. Now in our fifth year, we are pleased to report that our relationships with organizations seeking volun- teer assistance has broadened as have the number of French- man’s Creek members who have volunteered in a variety of volunteer activities. We communicate regularly with agencies and schools that seek our assistance. In November 2018, Frenchman’s Creek volunteers were hon- ored at an “Honor Our Stars” informative cocktail event. We welcome new members of our community who are seeking an additional dimension to living at Frenchman’s Creek. Our com- mittee is a great place to make new friends. The Volunteer Match Program offers many different types of volunteer experiences. Groups of our residents have worked in mentoring programs at the local Palm Beach Gardens High School, the Watson B. Duncan Middle School and the Grove Park Elementary School. Future plans involve volunteer pro- grams at the William T. Dwyer High School in Palm Beach Gardens. Our members also volunteer for the Literacy Coalition as “readers” of essays in the adult essay-writing program. Working in a conference room, our members read over one hundred es- says and offer encouraging comments and edits. We are work- ing on establishing additional programs at Frenchman’s Creek where our members could be trained by the Literacy Coalition, which would enable members to volunteer for the literacy pro- grams at local schools.
