Top 1o for 2014!

H appy new year, STACK music lovers. There’s a lot to look forward to in music for 2015, but before we look to the year ahead, a quick re-cap on some things from late 2014. Firstly, Bertie Blackman, Daily Meds, King Gizzard &The Wizard Lizard, Krakatau, Lanie Lane, and Shiny Joe Ryan were all added to the AMP longlist: the shortlist will be announced soon, and the winner in March; good luck everyone. Late last year I also caught Damon Albarn at Melbourne’s Palais Theatre: a close run thing for gig of the year and incredible

the new album by London natives Kitty, Daisy and Lewis (entitled Third ) is produced by Mick Jones of The Clash, and is their best release to date. The Foo Fighters are set to land on us in February to play the well-received Sonic Highways. If you missed this exceptional show on the roots and evolution of American music (from Washington punk to Nashville country to jazz and funk in New Orleans) on TV, make sure you get yourself a Blu-ray or DVD version when the time comes! Until next issue, keep your head in the music.

to see Remi hop up and guest on Clint Eastwood. TheWar on Drugs were out here for Meredith Music Festival and I caught a sideshow; spell binding and energised and Lost in the Dream just sprang to life. Other highlights at the end of 2014 included Black Cab at Howler (see top ten at left) a brilliant live reading of their electronically fuelled Games of the XXI Olympiad. To kick off the year, I got down to Asgeir at Melbourne’s ever- gorgeous Forum Theatre, and made my annual sojourn down to So Frenchy, So Chic at Werribee Mansion – as ever a lovely day out in the sun in mid January, with The Do and Emile Simon both being highlights for me. In terms of new releases,
