De Beers Group consolidates its mining assets in South Africa and Canada

FUCHS set to increase presence in Tanzania The FUCHS Group, which operates globally in the lubricants industry, is strengthening its presence in Tanzania and is establishing a new company. This will ensure direct access for its customers and distributors to the highest quality global standard of lubricants and services. FUCHS will continue to offer the full range of lubricants and technical expertise for several indus- tries with a focus on the mining, industrial, food and automotive retail industries. So far FUCHS has served De Beers Group has announced an initiative to consolidate its mining assets in South Africa and Canada into one business called De Beers Group Man- aged Operations. The new business will streamline operational management and identify synergies to create a more sustainable business in the two countries. De Beers Group Managed Operations will focus on Venetia Mine, Gahcho Kué Mine and De Beers Marine under one leadership team. The restructuring was necessitated by the company’s reduced mining footprint in South Africa and Canada due to the closures of Snap Lake and Voorspoed Mines, along with the imminent closure of Victor Mine during May 2019. Nompumelelo Zikalala will be appointed to the new role of managing director for De Beers Group Managed Operations, based in Johannesburg. Zikalala will move from her current role as Deputy CEO, DBCM, to take responsibility for the restructure. She will be supported by Allan Rodel, in the newly created role of head of operations, and a management team based in Johannesburg, but with additional support services in Canada. “We are delighted to appoint Zikalala into this new and vitally import- ant position to focus on growing a profitable and sustainable business in both South Africa and Canada. Our businesses in these countries face very different challenges and require a leader of Zikalala’s skill, vision and experience to maximise their full potential. I am personally very pleased to see her step into this role, which she does with my full support,” says Bruce Cleaver, CEO of De Beers Group. b

“The key advantage of our ceramic technology is to lengthen the replacement intervals for these wear parts,” says Jarrett. “This, in turn, reduces down- time on the plant and raises productivity, invariably delivering positive impacts to the bottom line.” To further enhance the ceramic value-add, Multo- tec also offers ceramic components on certain other strategic pump components. “Our ceramic shaft sleeve, for instance, also contributes to longer life, and can be replaced easily without the risk of damaging the shaft,” he says. “We can also provide other components – such as the throat bush and the frame plate liner – with ceramic protection for better wear resistance and longer service life.” Ceramic impellers are available in various stan- dard sizes, but there is scope for the development of custom solutions to suit the customers’ needs. They have been successfully applied in mainly gold and copper operations, primarily in the tailings and leaching circuits, as well as other aggressive envi- ronments. b
