Wilderness and Rescue Medicine 7th Edition Jeffrey Isaac, PA-C and David E. Johnson, MD

Wilderness and Rescue Medicine 232

P: 1. Symptomatic treatment with ibuprofen and cool water. Encourage normal food and water intake. Monitor for any changes. 2. Enforce hand washing. Avoid sharing utensils and water bottles. Keep the remaining healthy crew in separate tents if possible. Discussion: There is no emergency here. The patient, like the others who share the illness, are uncomfortable but still performing normal bodyfunctions. There is no loss of appetite and no fever, which is a good sign. There is no evidence of airway obstruction and little reason to anticipate it, and the patient is normally healthy. The student who appears to have brought the virus to the group is recovering. Everyone else is expected to do the same.
