WEST COAST CONFERENCE SOCCER

Once again the West Coast Conference proved its dominance on a national scal e thi s past season with three teams qualifying for NCAA Tournament action. Needless to say, the WCC is regarded as one of the premiere soccer conferences in the United States. League members San Diego, Pepperdine, Saint Mary's, Gonzaga and Loyola Marymount have all received invitations to the NCAA College Cup Tournament in recent years. San Diego has made it into the NCAATournament in seven of the past nine seasons includ– ing a trip in 2007.This past season the WCC again saw success in the Tournamernt with Portland advancing into the quarterfinals. The WCC is proud to enter its 16th sea son of women's soccer. Historically, four member teams have tasted post-season play,with Santa Clara leading the way with 18 appearances, including 11 NCAA semi-finals. Portland follows with 14 trips, including eight appearances in the NCAA Semi-Finals. The University of San Diego has appeared in the NCAA Tour– nament eight times,aiming for their ninth trip in the past 10 years in 2008. Saint Mary's has qualified for the tournament three times, most recently advancing to the second round in 2001 .Women's soccer is one of 13 sports the 54-year-old conference sponsors. Started in 1952 as a men's basketball league for five Bay Area schools, the WCC added women's athletics to its lineup in 1985.
