"The greatest' challenge to a Division I athlete is to balance the demands of sport while taking full advantage of the educational experiences offered. The purpose of our program is to assist stu– dent-athletes in meeting this challenge by offering tutoring, advising, mentoring and a quiet environment to study. The academic support program is designed to assist students in adjusting to life at USO and developing sound academic and career plans. By promoting a philos– ophy of individual responsibility, which encourages each student-athlete to value their educational experience, the academic support program assists each athlete to realize their full potential." SARABETH POLLOCK Coordinator of Athletic Academic Support
Sarabeth Pollock begi ns her fo urth year as the Coordi nator of Athletic Academic Sup– port for USD. She has \\·orked as a tutor in the Athletic Departmen t since the fa ll of She serves as the academic ad, isor for all sports except l·'ootball and Ro\\ ing. Her responsibilities incl ude the supervision of th e Stud, Hall and the administration of the tutoring and mentoring programs. Currently, the Academic Support Program employs m·er 25 tutors who represent a variety of majors across campus, as well as over 12 men– tors who are graduate students pursui ng their masters degrees in USD 's CounseLing Program . Sarabeth graduated from USO in 2002 in the Honors Program, earning her Bachelor of Arts degree in PoLitical Science and History. She speaks Spanish and French Auently. A 5th generation San Di egan, she resides in Point Loma with her fam ily. ln her spare time, Sarabeth enjoys working on her nm·el that she hopes to ha,·e published eventu– ally.

ACADEMIC SUPPORT CENTER
The USO Athletic Academic Support program is designed to promote the academic development of student– athletes. The primary objective is to offer the necessary resources for the academic success of student-athletes as they work to earn their degree. Academic Support services are designed to enhance the student-athlete's overall collegiate experi ence and encourage development and attainment of academic and career goals. All USO student athletes have access to advising, tutoring and mentoring services.The mentoring program, Torero Blue and MenTorero, were redeveloped in 2005 and team a graduate student in the counseling program with an athlete who would like to enhance study skill s, learn about campu s resources, receive guidance on goal development and attainment, and benefit from guided group study. Student-athletes al so have access to a quiet area where they ca n study or work in the computer center. In addition, student-athletes are encouraged to utilize the campu s learning centers including the Writing, Math and Logic Centers, as well as to take advan– tage of the resources availabl e to them in the Career Center, Counseling Center and Computer Labs.
