The primary objective is to improve the student– athletes' study skill s, support them in their ac ade mic work , and en– courage scholastic achievement. It is essen ti al that student-athletes re– ceive the necessary academ ic as– s is tan ce to cont in ue normal progress toward a degree while par- ticipating in at hletics. USO stude nt- athl etes receive assistance through adv isi ng , progress reports , academ ic tutors, campus learn ing centers, such as the Logic , Math , and Writing Centers, and the Accelerated Study Program. The Accelerated Study Program provides a monitored , quiet area open only to the student- athletes to ensure quality study time. These se rvices are avai lab le to all USD student-athl etes. STRENGTH& CONDITIONING
The USD strength and conditioning program is under the direction of Steve Brown who is in his fifth year. The University of San Diego athletic department recogni zes the need for all athletes of all sports to engage in a comprehensive strength and conditioning program. program is the USO Sports Center weight room. It is open exclusive ly to student- athl etes at specific times eac h day. The weight room contains 5,000 square feet of Olympic platforms, free -weights, se lectorized machines, dumb– bells and cardiovascular equipment. USO student-athletes receive intensive instruc– ti on on proper weight training technique; speed, power and ag ility deve lopment; and sport-specific condition– ing. Their st rength and conditioning programs are spe– ci fie to the nature of thei r sport or position . Each athl ete is individually monitored throughout their program to ensure the greatest chance of athletic progress.
