TheChatter - Summer 2016

A Moving Forward With Confidence By Jim Parker [CEO] As you are all no doubt aware, Carter is going through an historic repositioning of our business in order to be successful without the significant coal revenues we have enjoyed in the past. Our coal customers continue to be a critical part of our overall business, but that market clearly remains in contraction mode. How much deeper it drops or when it will begin to rebound has proven very difficult to predict. Our job over the remaining months of 2016 and into 2017 is to structure Carter Machinery to be a high performing Cat dealer in all business aspects, including financial performance, regardless of the strength of any particular market. With this principal objective in mind, the Carter leadership team recently developed revised business plans designed to enhance our success for 2016 and beyond. While we still have work to do, I am energized by the plans our Vice Presidents have established and my confidence in our path forward is high. It’s always important to keep in mind that an essential element of our business success begins by ensuring that we are our customers’ best business partner. Providing Carter branded customer service “All Day, Every Day” is critical to our success. Whether it’s answering phone calls in a timely and professional manner or completing a job on-time and right the first time, it all amounts to showing our customers we appreciate their business. Carter must do our part so our customers can meet their commitments and, ultimately, achieve their highest level of success. Times in the Coalfields have been tough and the increased customer demand in our other businesses creates its own set of challenges trying to keep up. But now, more than ever, each customer interaction must be embraced with energy and a desire to go the extra mile that hopefully surpasses even the toughest customer’s expectations. In spite of having to face some incredibly challengingmarket conditions, the Carter teamhas performed exceptionally well and, moving forward, that level of success is only going to grow. I encourage you to share in my confidence for 2016 and beyond and would like to express my gratitude for having the opportunity to be a part of such a great team!
