National School Counselor Week

My name is Shawn Grime, and I am the new Executive Director of the Ohio School Counselor Association. I wanted to take a moment to reach out to your organizations and introduce myself as well as introduction you to OSCA. The week of February 4-9, 2019 is National School Counseling Week. This year’s theme is, ”School Counselors: Providing Lessons for Life”. Whether it be helping at-risk seniors navigate alternative pathways to graduation or teaching elementary students how to get along with their classmates, school counselors across Ohio are at the forefront of advocating for the academic, career and person/social development of our students. On behalf of OSCA, I would like to ask if your organizations would be willing to help promote National School Counseling Week among your members via email, your website and social media. This week provides administrators and school boards an opportunity to not only thank the school counselors they work with, but to also learn more about the value and benefits a comprehensive school counseling program can have on student outcomes. Below are some links to helpful resources about National School Counseling Week your members can utilize. The first link is to the American School Counselor Association and they have provided downloads of sample proclamations, certificates and other documents that can assist your members in celebrating this week. • https://www.schoolcounselor.org/school-counselors-members/about-asca-(1)/ national-school-counseling-week • https://ohioschoolcounselor.org/ • http://education.ohio.gov/Topics/Career-Tech/Career-Connections/Resources-for- School-Counselors
