Anyway, I went home and struggled my way thru a guitar strap, and started using it. It’s a good thing that this was in the 70’s,

because pretty much anything could be viewed as “cool”… So then our rhythm guitar player wanted me to make him one. So I did. Then I made a belt for someone. And I was off to the races. My dad owned a restaurant in the little farm town that we lived in, and he told me that I could hang the stuff I was making in front of his register area. So I hung hand bags, wallets, clutch purses, leather

pictures, and anything else there, and folks actually bought it!!! I used Bona Allen leather, Nature Tanned leather, and Her- mann Oak back then. I thought that doing leather work for money was a lot better than driving a forklift for John Deere, so I quit that job (like an idiot) and just did leather work, played in the band, and fished. Worked ok for a while…. I did a ton of leatherwork in those days, and learned quite a bit. I was a really good customer for Tandy! Then one day I found my- self pretty much at the bottom of the barrel, with just enough money to buy a side of leather.
