Northrock PPE Catalogue - USA Edition

ESD Electrostatic Discharge can occur when a sudden flow of electrical energy occurs between two electrically charge objects or surfaces. This is known as static. These charged surfaces pose a risk to your business and equipment. Having an EPA ensures that there is somewhere where static charges are unable to build up in great enough strength cause damage, which is in turn helps to protect your equipment, and your business. Therefore, all Portwest ESD products are certified to the international standard IEC-61340-1-5 to ensure the products are compliant within the EPA zone. ESD (ELECTROSTATIC DISCHARGE)

EPA Electrostatic Protected Area is an area in a business or property where static sensitive items can be used safely. EPA’s can be any size required by the business for example a workstation or a full production facility. Within an EPA there must be a low static field of no greater than 100v and considering the average plastic bags produces 10,000v it is extremely low and thus PPE and equipment must be bonded together to ensure the static field is grounded and avoid damage to personnel and componentry.
