Included at the St. Luke campus is 1) The Highlands, an independent living facility for seniors; 2) Southridge Apartments, another independent living alternative for seniors; 3) Riverview Terrace, an assisted living facility; and 4) St. Luke Lutheran Home, a skilled care nursing home. The St. Luke campus is located on the city’s southeast side near the Little Sioux River which provides a beautiful setting for its residents. The St. Luke Lutheran Home is a 99-bed facility. The amenities included with the Hillside and Riverview Terrace assisted living facilities include meals, medication management, health assessments, on call nurse 24 hours per day, housekeeping, social activities, laundry facilities, and an indoor aquatic center. Lastly, the Highlands is touted as “retirement living at its finest”. Residents of the Highlands have the independence of their residence without having to worry about maintenance, landscaping, lawn care, or chores. Meal plans are even an option for residents at the Highlands. CLAY COUNTY COURTHOUSE The Clay County Courthouse is located at 300 West 4 th Street in Spencer. This structure was built in 1900, and was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1981 as a part of the County

Courthouses in Iowa Thematic Resource. Originally, the Clay County Courthouse was in Peterson, Iowa. In 1871, the county seat moved to Spencer, and a courthouse was built for $1,333. Eventually this courthouse became too small for the offices and staff in this location. Finally, in 1900, construction was initiated for the current courthouse of Clay County. The total cost for the current courthouse located on West 4 th Street was $60,000 and was completed in 1901. The city of Spencer proudly serves as the center for court and judicial services as well as other governmental services in Clay County and northwest Iowa.
