Spencer Middle School Spencer’s Middle school is the learning center for grades 6-8. The school is located along East 10 th Street on the east side of the community. According to the School District website at http://middleschool.spencerschools.org/, the Middle School’s mission is to develop the academic and leadership potential of each of our students. The Middle School staff strives to provide learning opportunities in a caring environment to help each student reach their full potential. From information obtained through the Iowa Department of Education, in 2015 (latest year available), the Middle School was home to 441 students with a student:teacher ratio of 15:1, which is equal to the statewide average student:teacher ratio. Johnson Elementary School According to the Johnson Elementary website page, http://spencerjohnson.ss10.sharpschool.com/, this school in Spencer is the early childhood center within the school district. There are five (5) preschool classrooms at Johnson, as well as a “Kinder Care” or pre-Kindergarten class. Also, all Kindergarten and First Grade classes for Spencer attend Johnson Elementary.

Fairview Elementary School Fairview Elementary located in the northeast part

of Spencer at the corner of East 5 th Street and 16 th Avenue East. Fairview Elementary is home to all of Spencer’s third and fourth grade elementary classes. According to the School District’s website, Fairview staff focuses on mathematical instruction centered on the student’s understanding of math principals along with reading instruction focused on each child’s independent reading level.

Lincoln Elementary School All fourth and fifth grade students in the Spencer Community School District attend Lincoln Elementary. This elementary school is located on the southwest side of Spencer along 4 th Avenue SW between 6 th Street SW and 8 th Street SW. As of the 2015-16 School year, there were 307 students attending Lincoln Elementary in approximately 6 class sections per grade level. In addition to core curriculum, students at Lincoln Elementary are introduced to Library, Art, Music, Physical Education, and STEM classes.
