Twenty Five Years of Urban Church Planting Among the Poor: A Report 20 D. Appendix 4: Frequently Asked Questions 1.

What is the difference between a church and a church plant? A “church plant” is a formally commissioned church plant team which has not yet completed the “Transition” phase of a church plant cycle. A “church” is a church plant that has completed the “T” or “Transition” phase of church planting as evidenced by the commissioning of “elders” (Titus 1:5). What is a church plant “movement”? Church plant movements are defined differently by different organizations. In this report, the term is used for a local church which has planted at least one daughter church and which has a clearly defined vision for launching more churches with Contextualization, Commonality and Connectivity (See Appendix 5 for definitions). How will the 300 churches be counted? Regional leadership has suggested we begin counting the “300” as church plants in progress or commissioned after Jan 1, 2014. Thus any church plants that have been going since that date, or which will be commissioned between now and the end of 2021 can be counted as one of the 300.
