MEMORANDUM

Date:

January 31, 2019

To:

AOAC INTERNATIONAL Official Methods Board

From:

Deborah McKenzie, Staff Liaison – AOAC Official Methods Board

Subject:

Adding Operational Information to OMAs

Ana Gago‐Martinez, co‐chair of the AOAC Marine and Freshwater Toxins Community is working with  Dr James Lawrence who has developed the AOAC 2005.06 OMA method for the determination of  paralytic shellfish poisoning toxins (PSP),  to write a short protocol for using this OMA method as  routine method since this OMA AOAC 2005.06 will become the reference method for the analysis of  PSP in the European Legislation since January 2019.   They would like to know if it is possible to include this protocol in the OMA method to make it clear  how laboratories doing control in routine could use it.  Ideally, this addendum would not mean any  additional validation, but just to include a better description on the protocol for routine use of the  method.  Dr. Gago‐Martinez and Dr. Lawrence were asked to provide an outline of an example for  consideration.   I mentioned that I would bring this matter to the OMB for consideration, but that a  discussion on it may not happen until the outline is provided, ideally aiming for the Mid‐Year  meeting.

RECOMMENDATION :
