MEMORANDUM

Date:

January 31, 2019

To:

AOAC INTERNATIONAL Official Methods Board

From:

Deborah McKenzie, Staff Liaison – AOAC Official Methods Board

Subject:

Developing Process for Review and Acceptance of AOAC Methods by External  Organizations

As part of the AOAC – ISO agreement, both organizations share in the development of standards and  methods on a case‐by‐case basis.  Another aspect of the agreement considers where organizations  share in the approval of each other’s published methods.   To date, the infant formula methods has  had the most systematic approach to doing joint approvals with external organizations.  However,  the approach used with SPIFAN may not be applicable en‐total for all areas and we need a easier  systematic approach.   Current methods areas for which a harmonized method sharing is needed at this time are:   Mycotoxins – AOAC 2013.05 (through ISO SC    Dietary Fiber – AOAC 2017.16 (through Codex and CCNFSDAU & CCMAS)  RECOMMENDATION :  Broaden this discussion and include it on the Mid‐Year Meeting OMB meeting agenda.  I would like  to solicit a three volunteers to assist staff in drafting an initial proposal for OMB’s deliberation in  March.
