Update on AOAC Dairy Methods in Codex STAN 234 

An ERP was empanelled in December and in January over a 10‐day period, the experts reviewed 12  AOAC methods currently listed in the Codex 234 in the Milk and Milk Products section.  AOAC  participated in a dual path review process: the review for documentation for AOAC and the review  needed by the CCMAS eWorking Group (eWG) chair.   AOAC learned in late November early December  that the eWG was reviewing methods and assigned methods to AOAC along with other Codex country  delegations.  The eWG had a deadline of January 31 st  for all reviews.    Using the AOAC rubric for the methods, the ERP members reviewed the methods and provided  thorough reviews.  The ERP met on Wednesday, January 30, 2019 to review the methods using the  rubric submitted by the CCMAS eWG chair.     The entire effort is a collaborative one with ISO and IDF with whom AOAC will work with to have a  consolidated recommendation on the joint methods.     Lessons learned include the following:  1. Need a platform that makes it easy for reviewers to access information.   2. There is some tweaking to the AOAC rubric that will be needed.   3. This ERP is AWESOME although more review time is needed.  4. Process for periodic review of AOAC methods referenced in the CXS234 is needed.   The method reviews and initial recommendations of the ERP are in Table 1.  

RECOMMENDATION: 

For OMB to decide on the process for endorsing the recommendations of these ERPs, or if one is  needed.
