GFTU BGCM Minutes 2017

such things as dreams are made on”, GFTU, Quorn Nursery, we are such

things as dreams are made on. Thank you. (Applause)

THE PRESIDENT: Thanks very much indeed, Lynn. I propose that we now take a

break for 15 minutes. When we come we will ask Paul Di Felice, Principal of

Ruskin College, Oxford, to speak to us (that is a fundamentally important

relationship for the GFTU) followed by Dr. Callow, our new Education Officer

saying a few words of introduction and then I am going to throw this open to

debate and discussion. Is that okay? Are you all right with that change to the

timetable to have a quick break. (Agreed) 15 minutes, not longer, please.

Thanks very much.

The meeting adjourned for tea

THE PRESIDENT: What I am going to ask now is for Paul Di Felice from Ruskin

College, Oxford, to come and say some words and then I am going to ask our

new Education Officer, Dr. John Callow, to say a few words and then I am

going to throw open the education stuff to a wider discussion if anybody else

wants to speak.

for about eight months, so I am still in my inaugural period. I have survived the

first 100 days which is notorious, of course. I am thoroughly, thoroughly

enjoying the experience, it has been an absolutely amazing time for me.

The discussions so far have been really interesting, because one of the key

things that I have picked up from the presentations is this whole discussion

around culture and cultural ideas and as somebody who has been teaching

history for about 23 years, that is something that is very, very close to my heart

and something which is very, very important in terms of Ruskin College. Also,
