SPORT 1913 - 2013

ternational Women’s Day”, a day for annual manifestations to campaign for equality of genders. In 2000, Marie-George Buffet, sport minister at that time, wrote a preamble for a book about athletes and made a wish: “The dream of a different sport in a different world is ahead of us. It is a dream full of value be- cause of personal joy, of emotions, of collec- tive imagination. It is a sport free of com- merce, of doping, of chauvinism, of sexism, characterised by the meeting of cultures and different nations. Could we imagine that this dream could come true without women?” (Buffet 2000) The women’s emancipation is still not accomplished. The current political austerity programs and the destruction of the public welfare sector will aggravate the in- equalities and women will be the first victims as they are more vulnerable due to economic and social reasons. The gender-diversity is a real challenge for the future and is not so easy to realise. The rules have to be adapted in a way that every- body who practises sport is included: women and men, the ones who do it regularly and the ones who do it occasionally, too. We should not stick to our acquired rights as they can be easily contested. The FSGT wants to contrib- ute. The CSIT is the platform to do so. Let us invent, create, innovate. Let us make a wish that the popular workers sport for everybody is the key for emancipation, for men and women together.
