Has sport prevented conflicts and ten- sions? The answer is no, because it is not sport that can do so, it is us. Has sport contributed to prevent conflicts? This is difficult to evalu- ate as sport’s impact can also be seen very much as a preventative one. Does sport have a role to play with regard to conflict and diver- sity? Most definitely! – As an additional tool and an added value for other means address- ing social integration and peace building. Let’s assume all our efforts are captured as little pebbles or stones in a mosaic called: “Building a better society” – as part of that mosaic, sport can be a very bright colour in- deed. In terms of multi-stakeholder collabora- tion we have so many important stakeholders on board already supporting the case for sport – from UN to grassroots level. This is indeed one of the positive developments of the 21 st century. The challenge for many of these ef- forts is very often a meaningful collaboration with mutual benefits and sustainability. The vision of this chapter is to stress coordi- nated efforts, interactions of communities, municipalities, sports federations, clubs, ter- tiary institutions, schools and local and na- tional governments as well as civil society with the international and national sporting fraternity in helping to transform our society into a united and peaceful society and to therefore contribute to a legacy. Sport can in- deed play an important role in that regard as one of the tools, especially for the youth.

At its Congress in Rio de Janeiro on Octo- ber 8 th , 2011, the CSIT called for the develop- ment of closer collaboration with a number of stakeholders in the field. In addition, the Con- gress endorsed the 100 year celebration of CSIT and its 100 years publication as it “is im- portant to give a legacy to the next generation” (CSIT Chairman’s report 2012). To leave a true legacy for our next generation is our mandate and our challenge, to include sport as a tool for peace is our responsibility.
