Understanding the offer An official job offer will provide information/ clarification on the following: • Job title • Deadline for responding • Supervisor’s name • Wage/salary • Job desc./responsibilities • Start date Clarifying Questions that Support Future Negotiation • Can I negotiate this offer? • What is the outlook for salary raises or promotions? • Can I get the offer in writing? • What metrics do you use to evaluate success of your employees? Employers will let you know if the offer is contingent on passing a background check or drug screening. When you receive an offer, ask for it in writing and ask the employer to clarify any aspects that are not clear to you.

If this information is not provided with the offer, request this information be sent prior to making a decision (benefits during co-op and internships will be much more limited than professional positions designed for new graduates/alumni).
