Public Relations Communicating with the Student Populace
Julie Cluff Director of Public Relations
As Director of Public Relations, Julie Cluff served as a liaison between the students and AS. Her main job was to make known to the student community the programs that AS. was planning for them through a monthly newsletter: the AS. Communicator. As an innovative tool created by Julie to coalesce the complex workings of AS. into a nutshell, the Communicator contains articles about up-coming AS. events and places them on a calendar. For example, articles about "Mural of Hope" and "Giving Tree" projects were included in the newsletter to inform the
student community of AS.'s plans and good intentions. Julie also had the job of keeping AS. internally motivated through an AS. in– house newsletter. For the 1993-94 AS. elections, Julie was in charge of adver– tising the appointed directorship posi– tions as well as the interview process. She made sure that the school stayed in good hands for the next year. Being involved in AS. for three years famil– iarized Julie to its internal workings, and last year she earned the outstand– ing AS. service award for her dedica– tion and hard work.
Corporate Relations The Search for Sponsorships
As the director of Corporate Rela– tions for AS., Dan Kilkenny served as the middleman for USD and the outside world of business. Together with his assistant, Kelly Masterson, their job is to obtain sponsorships from corporate business student-oriented programs by AS. Usually, these businesses are offered advertisement slots around the campus in return for their participation. Some of his highly successful projects include Homecom– ing and the USD bicycle grand prix.
